My dad is a retired 777 Captain for United. He flew the Orient, and the London - Delhi route. He's also former Air Force. He's still active on the pilot boards. Initially he was in the pilot suicide camp. But as more information came out and the inconsistancies, he started to believe mh370 was sitting at the end of the tarmac on Diego Garcia. He kept this to himself. He's not even remotely a tin foil hat type of guy.
When the flaperon appeared, he confessed his Diego belief, almost relieved that it presumably had gone down in the Indian Ocean instead.
But then, my background is extensive travel in Central Asia, the Soviet Union, East Block, Pinochet's Chile, you get the picture. Most recent my company was a contractor to the Army on a manufactured parts contract. And all I could think, having sat in endless quality telecons, is how could you disassemble a 777 in Diego and properly cast some parts to finish the lost in the Indian Ocean story?
I have no idea to what end, and I don't think we'd take that many westerners as collateral damage. But the Russians certainly would.
I still consider random theories as I flat out don't believe Inmarsat. I've seen enough misinformation professionally to last a lifetime.
